    Laws - View Law: TRUANCY

(not being in school when you are supposed to be)

It is against the law for anyone between the ages of six and sixteen to not attend school. However, there are some exceptions through excused absences, home school, etc. Even if you miss just one class period without an excuse, you are considered truant.

If you miss school a lot (5 days, unexcused) you are considered to be habitually truant (ARS 15-803).  An attendance officer can enforce this law. The officer can give you a ticket requiring you and a parent to appear before an official of the court. (ARS 15-805)  If you are habitually truant you could be put on probation, have your driver’s license taken away, or have to attend counseling or educational classes. (ARS 8-323)

I think as a person you should be able to make your own choices meaning if a student didn't wanted to be truant they would go to school and behave but if a student didn't want to go to school and be truant why force them to because everyone knows that you can't force anyone to do something they dont want to do so when the law is forcing kids to go to school when they dont want to then they are going to do everything in their power to do what they can not to go to school.so they start misbehaving and getting in trouble because they know that if they get in enough trouble they will get kicked o

Although I am a kid myself i agree with most parents, why ditch? Its only going to get you in trouble. There are too many perverts in this world that can take control over you and nobody even knows! And another thing, what is so special about drugs ne wayz? They take over your life and maybe others. I hope one day kids can just STOP what they are doing and actually pay attention to school.

To Amber: You may think you got by with changing the absences on your report card. With the internet these days, parents can get weekly attendance and grade reports from schools. They can also go on-line with a userid and password whenever they want and see your grades by class, which assignments were not turned in, what days you were absent, etc. Parents if you don't know if your school has this, check into it. If your school doesn't have it, try to get them to get it. Kids get by with too much these days and we need all the help we can get! Signed - a loving and concerned parent.
