Laws - View Law: FIGHTING AND ASSAULT

An assault is committed any time a person knowingly causes physical injury to another person. It is also any time that someone may feel physically threatened or when someone touches someone else to provoke or insult them. (A.R.S. § 13-1203).

Sometimes assault is classified as a misdemeanor. Aggravated assault is a felony. It is important to know this and to realize that fighting can be illegal. If you are involved in a fight, you could also be charged with disorderly conduct or disturbing the peace.

On 09/08/06 ps from WA said: My friend and his girlfriend got in a fight. She slapped him and he pushed her away to keep her from slapping him again.She fell but wasn't hurt. She ran to a guys house, he followed. The guys house that she ran to punched him and pushed him down the stairs. He got arrested for assualt. They wouldn't keep him in jail because they said he should go to the hospital first because of the bruising and swelling he had they took pictures. He's out on bail right now. Nothing has happened to her or the guys that punched him and pushed him down the stair. Can he press charges?
On 08/17/06 brad from AZ said: I was chasing my girlfriend down the street to get my keys back some old man calls the cops says i hit her, I said i was pulling the keys from her now they are charging me with assault. i didnt hit her she even said i didnt ? am i going to jail they arressted me that day and im out on bail.
On 08/04/06 steve from PA said: a 24 year old,an 18 year old and a 16 year old jumped my friend who was 17 and latter that night we went back and found the boy who was 18 he was sitting outside so we beat him stomping and kickin him in the face now i am being charged with assult and battery and an underage because when i was arrested i was drunk will i be serveing jail time?
On 06/20/06 john from OH said: if someone is 3 inches from my face and says they're going to knock me out can i defend myself at this point and not have to worry about assault. The reason i ask is i didn't hit him back because i work in the healthcare services and i can't have any felonies on my record. The guy hit me 5 times then i called the police and they said they couldn't do anything i would have to talk to the prosecuter and hope he had enough evidence. I had a knot on the back of my head but they didn't even care to look, i went to the hospital later and had a concusion. Next time i will defend myself.
