Question: What is the curfew in the city of Mesa for teens ages 16 and up?

Answer:

Mesa city ordinance #2825 says that anyone under 16 must be home from 10 pm to 5 am.  The rule allows persons 16 to 18 to be out until midnight.

There are some exceptions.

  • legally emancipated minors
  • minors accompanied by a parent or guardian
  • minors who are working with the permission of a parent or guardian
  • medical and other emergencies
  • minors with parent's permission who are attending or returning home from functions sponsored by or related to religious, school, civic, or nonprofit organization like: services, classes, meetings, dances, social events, dramatic or musical performances, and sporting events.

Violating this law is a misdemeanor, and the penalties include a fine up tp two thousand five hundred dollars ($2,500.00) or imprisonment for up to six (6) months, or both fine and imprisonment. (passed 10/93)

it's true that it should be up to the parent how long their child should be out. Because they know that their child is out there. Say for example, you are stranded somewhere and it's after curfew and the police pull up and you get arrested. So why even bother with curfew if nobody follows through with it.

I stand by the law on this one. There are many parents who probably don't even realize they have kids. The police is worried that something might happen. The college kids are out at this time to plus it is dark! so reconsider what you are doing!!!!!!!!!

Archie from AZ, please tell me why it should be up to the parent? there are many parents who are careless, and don't set enough rules, if any.

Hated it when I was younger, but I stand by the law in this situation. There are a lot of parents who don't really give a care about their kids.
