Question:

im 15 in arizona and was wandering if it is legal to carry a airsoft gun, an airsoft gun is a gun that uses yellow plastic bb's and is sping loaded with an orange barrel, that is not concealed or loaded and is in a holster and not consealed and/or a knife that is 8 inches that is an a holster, and not consealed, just to scare away predaters?

Answer:

Arizona Law (A.R.S. § 13-3111) states that a minor cannot carry a firearm unless under the supervision of an adult. Technically a spring loaded gun is not considered a firearm. There may be local city ordances regarding these types of guns, so it would be a good idea to check with the authorities in your area.

The largest knife you could legally carry is a pocket knife (A.R.S. § 13-3102), anything larger you need a permit for, and you can't get that permit until you are an adult.

You also have to remember that you can't carry any type of weapon onto school grounds.

Airsoft (BB) guns are not considered firearms in AZ. ARSĀ§13-3101.A.4 defines FIREARM as "any loaded or unloaded handgun, pistol, revolver, rifle, shotgun or other weapon that will expel, is designed to expel or may readily be converted to expel a projectile by the action of an explosive." Phoenix permits firing of BB guns on your own property w/ adult supervision and meeting certain safety requirements. Otherwise, shooting is a misdemeanor. Tucson prohibits firing BB guns AND prohibits possession unless you are w/ a parent. Both you AND your parents get charged a class 2 misdemeanor!

Tim, City limits is everything inside the city. Not what the city owns. Not public property, not property owned by the city. EVERYTHING inside the borders of the city...

I live down here in Mesa and my friends and I always go airsofting down at deserted construction sites and an elementry school. We get the cops called on us all the time, although as soon as they see that it is just a spring powered gun the apologize for taking our time and request we do not scare anyone with them. Moral of the story is: as long as you set your airsoft gun down whenever an officer approaches u and u tell him that it is simply an airsoft, it is perfectly legal.

I live in Tucson Arizona,  we were out waiting for some guys to show up for a game of airsoft. Two officers approched us and asked us to leave our "Guns" against the wall as they were and come down to them to "Talk" the one officer whent up to check out the airsoft guns, while the other was checking us for any "Hidden firearms" after that was through we were told that it is a "FELONY" to discharge an airsoft gun "within city limits" Now city limits covers every place and thing in it?  i also read that it includes your own backyard! now whats going on here?
