Question: What are the laws concerning jobs for 13-year olds?

Answer: The Fair Labor Standards Act states that the minimum age for employment is 14 years old. A 14-year old that is a full-time student would be allowed to work in a retail establishment as long as the employer has obtained certifications from the Department of Labor. A business could be fined $10,000 for hiring someone under the age of 14. The age requirements for agricultural employment are slightly different.

i think that this is not right 13 year olds should be able to have jobs just as much as 14 year olds. what is the diffrence only one year. we are going to be 14 any ways so why not give us a job now. getting a job wil help us stay away from gang realated things and drugs.

I AM 13YEARS OLD, AND YES I DO WANT A JOB BUT, CAN NOT GET ONE BECAUSE I'M JUST 1 YEAR YOUNGER. NOT 2 BUT 1. WHICH IS NOT FAIR BECAUSE ALL TEENAGERS NEEDS TO BE IN SOME KIND OF ACTIVITY TO KEEP US BUSY. WHICH WILL HELP PREVENT , SOME TEENAGERS FROM DOING WRONG LIKE JOINING GANGS. OR DOING DRUGS AND DRINKING. I JUST CAN'T SEE WHY 13 YEAR OLDS CAN NOT GET A JOB.

I think that it depends on how responsible you are in the first place I mean come on if you are to immature no one will hire you, but you if are mature enough and responisble then I guess you could have a job.
