Question: What are the laws concerning jobs for 13-year olds?

Answer: The Fair Labor Standards Act states that the minimum age for employment is 14 years old. A 14-year old that is a full-time student would be allowed to work in a retail establishment as long as the employer has obtained certifications from the Department of Labor. A business could be fined $10,000 for hiring someone under the age of 14. The age requirements for agricultural employment are slightly different.

I think that having to be 14 years old isn't all that fair at all i mean 13 is that much younger than 14 and us 13 year olds can handle it all the adults say we need to grow up and learn some responsibility so give us a chance to do it and let us have a job your tired of us asking for money to go to the movies so give us a job and we won't ask anymore we'll be able to pay for ourselves by ourselves all in all i think that 13 year olds should just be able to have jobs plus the sooner we have a chance to be responsible the sooner we will!!!

I am 13. I want a job bad. I want to go into something like DJ'ing or radio or somethings like that. Plus, I'd have extra cash. Also, I'd be doing something I enjoy. I think the law should be changed.
