Question: What are the laws concerning jobs for 13-year olds?

Answer: The Fair Labor Standards Act states that the minimum age for employment is 14 years old. A 14-year old that is a full-time student would be allowed to work in a retail establishment as long as the employer has obtained certifications from the Department of Labor. A business could be fined $10,000 for hiring someone under the age of 14. The age requirements for agricultural employment are slightly different.

Why must you be 14 to get a job? Us 13yea olds want some jobs too.Just because we are 1 year younger we can't work that is a personal violation of privacy. We must have our own rights because we aren't just kids we have our whole lives to find a job. But what if we had a job at age 13 then we would have one more year of expirence for finding a jobright? We have rights and just because we are 1 year under the legal limit we can't get a job? I don't think that is right we have rights and some of us know our rights and we won't be denied the right of the persuit of happiness. What do you think????
