Question: What are the laws concerning jobs for 13-year olds?

Answer: The Fair Labor Standards Act states that the minimum age for employment is 14 years old. A 14-year old that is a full-time student would be allowed to work in a retail establishment as long as the employer has obtained certifications from the Department of Labor. A business could be fined $10,000 for hiring someone under the age of 14. The age requirements for agricultural employment are slightly different.

I also think people of the age of 13 or 14 should work, because were at the age where we actually need things and our parents won't give it to us. Like me I want a job so I could go to Las Vegas College and buy things I need at school, things that I want for my room, and help my parents out.

why cant we teens get a job and earn some money and spend it on our selfs and our own needs. our parents work veryhard just to get enough money to pay the bills and buy us food and clothes. even if were young we should be able to try and work for money to do stuff for ouselves . its just not fair. if you say that we all are equal than why cant the developed teens get a job. What i'm saying is that you made that saying that we are all suppose to be treated elqually and have same opppertuninties as others than why this than?????

I have a terrible life, my parents have no money, and my life is horrible. After completing my homework, I basically sleep at my computer for the rest of the evening. I know that I am responsible, as I have learned long and hard that I will not be able to get anything unless I find a job. I have done tasks all by myself with no one guarding over me with no problem. I have no allowance or anything, meaning that I have absolutely no money to buy anything, making me feel really left out with everyone talking about their iPods and stuff, yet I have a disc player, living in a rich city like myself.

13 year olds should be able to have a job. If we want a cell phone and our parents won't pay for it what are we supposed to do, wait? I don't think so, why do other teenagers need a job? Same here, if they get a job why can't we.
