Question: What are the laws concerning jobs for 13-year olds?

Answer: The Fair Labor Standards Act states that the minimum age for employment is 14 years old. A 14-year old that is a full-time student would be allowed to work in a retail establishment as long as the employer has obtained certifications from the Department of Labor. A business could be fined $10,000 for hiring someone under the age of 14. The age requirements for agricultural employment are slightly different.

And at this age we want more stuff and need more stuff but we dont have any money!! i think we should be able to get a job. i really think that 13 year olds should be able to get a job.why? because we are teenagers now . see i undestand 12 but not 13.we aint no different from 14 they are just 1 year older than us i don't see a big difference.i mean we'er teenagers now we have needs we go shopping, going through our teenage stages,if u know what i'm talking about,u know stuff like that but we can't help ourselves if people are going aginst 13 year olds having jobs.all im trying to say is that telling a teenager they can't have money for their personal needs is like telling a toddler they can't have candy, thank you .
