Question: What are the laws concerning jobs for 13-year olds?

Answer: The Fair Labor Standards Act states that the minimum age for employment is 14 years old. A 14-year old that is a full-time student would be allowed to work in a retail establishment as long as the employer has obtained certifications from the Department of Labor. A business could be fined $10,000 for hiring someone under the age of 14. The age requirements for agricultural employment are slightly different.

I am a very mature 13 year old child. Too keep children our age out of the street I believe they should be given responsibility. I believe children around the age of 13 should definatly be given a chance to work at a certified job level. Just as well as adults.

Well i think 13 year olds and 12 year olds should be able to get jobs...It just really depends how responceble you are. Thats all that counts and really there isn't a differnce between 12-14 for some people, but i am Really Mature and i think i should be able to get a job!
