Question: What are the laws concerning jobs for 13-year olds?

Answer: The Fair Labor Standards Act states that the minimum age for employment is 14 years old. A 14-year old that is a full-time student would be allowed to work in a retail establishment as long as the employer has obtained certifications from the Department of Labor. A business could be fined $10,000 for hiring someone under the age of 14. The age requirements for agricultural employment are slightly different.

I think that kids should have a job at 13. Cause when people gripe that children are always out 2 make trouble, but if they had a job they would be more worried about their job and money. So George W. Bush you should think about letting kids have a job at 13.

Hello all desperate 13 year olds. I personally think that this rule really stinks. Man, we early teens need some extra cash. But the people who came up with that law think but for what? Not all of us are as rich as they are!! Plus we need a channce to prove that a lot of us are responsible and hard working for future reference!e 13 year old are so so tired of askin our parents for every lil thing. Who ever made this rule neeeds to get a reality check of how some of us responsible teens need some extra cash and soon!!!!!!!!!

I wud love to get a job in mi community but all the managers of all the decent jobs are too skittish and they dont want to hire a person who doesnt have facial hair or whos voice hasnt broken. In mi opinion, 14 year olds are less reliable than 13 year olds. Thank-you-very-much.
