Question: What are the laws concerning jobs for 13-year olds?

Answer: The Fair Labor Standards Act states that the minimum age for employment is 14 years old. A 14-year old that is a full-time student would be allowed to work in a retail establishment as long as the employer has obtained certifications from the Department of Labor. A business could be fined $10,000 for hiring someone under the age of 14. The age requirements for agricultural employment are slightly different.

Teens should be able to work from the age of 13+ because it teaches teens to be more responsible and mature.

I am thirteen years old and i think it's okay to have a job. I feel that thirteen year olds are mature enough to make their own decisions. If they feel they are capable to manage a job and school at the same time, then I say go for it. I feel that a person knows their limits. If they feel they can do something, then they should be able to do it. Whats the difference if you're fourteen or thirteen? I didn't change much in the years from when I was six until I was seven. The only difference between a 13 yr old and a 14 yr old is MAYBE their height. If we wanna work, then let us work! <3 peace <3

Hey guys, I've wanted a job for ages now beacause i need the money badly to spend it on things i like, and all my older brothers have jobs, and all i do is sit at home losing all my dignity, i can understand what the goverment is thinking when they don't let us work cause of child labour, but thats stupid, beacause nobody is forcingus to get a job, and if we don't like our jobs we can just quit, so what is the goverment talking about when they think of child labour, its ridiculous, all us 13 year olds are just losing our dignity, they do'nt have to give us big jobs, just simple ones
