Question: What are the laws concerning jobs for 13-year olds?

Answer: The Fair Labor Standards Act states that the minimum age for employment is 14 years old. A 14-year old that is a full-time student would be allowed to work in a retail establishment as long as the employer has obtained certifications from the Department of Labor. A business could be fined $10,000 for hiring someone under the age of 14. The age requirements for agricultural employment are slightly different.

I really want a babysitting job because i just want to make a little extra money this summer. I will have taken a class for babysitting in July and i have read a book on babysiting and will be able to handle any emergency that will occur. I have been looking on the internetfor babysitting jobs and almost everyone is requiring you to be over the age of 18 or something like that and I think that i am experienced in babysitting and desereve a chance to try it out for the summer because i want to earn a little extra money. I hope I see you soon.
