Question: What are the laws concerning jobs for 13-year olds?

Answer: The Fair Labor Standards Act states that the minimum age for employment is 14 years old. A 14-year old that is a full-time student would be allowed to work in a retail establishment as long as the employer has obtained certifications from the Department of Labor. A business could be fined $10,000 for hiring someone under the age of 14. The age requirements for agricultural employment are slightly different.

So many people nowadays want to work because they want to earn money. So since they cant they ask parents and they say earn some. But we CANT because no one hires!! i really think they should help us 13 year olds out. they should let them work if they get good grade and a good student. kids have just as much right to work as older people! We need money just as much! Please whoever reads this that is offering a job, consider that we kids want jobs too!!! Thank you.

I'm 13 years old, and I need a job, and I'm not alone. Many other 13 year olders are already struggling with their families to make it day by day. Me having my own job would help me out a lot. Everytime I want something, or need something, half the time I can't get it. The answer is always "I don't got enough money" or "You don't need it". Even when I would just like to have a night out with a few of my friends, I wouldn't have no money, because whatever my father makes goes directly to bills, or food. So basically jobs could really help out many 13 year older a lot. So please change the laws.
