Question: What are the laws concerning jobs for 13-year olds?

Answer: The Fair Labor Standards Act states that the minimum age for employment is 14 years old. A 14-year old that is a full-time student would be allowed to work in a retail establishment as long as the employer has obtained certifications from the Department of Labor. A business could be fined $10,000 for hiring someone under the age of 14. The age requirements for agricultural employment are slightly different.

HEY!!! im 13 and i think that we should be able to earn money if we want to! were teens, we want to be able to support ourselves in SOME way! making our own money would be great! we dont have to ask our parents for every little thing, it should be our choice if we wanna work. i mean our parents tell us all the time to work for what u want, well we cant do that if cant! its like telling us that we cant drive legally until were 18, it doesnt make any sence at all. i really hope this goverment changes thid law, it our life and its our choice if WE want to work.
