Question: What are the laws concerning jobs for 13-year olds?

Answer: The Fair Labor Standards Act states that the minimum age for employment is 14 years old. A 14-year old that is a full-time student would be allowed to work in a retail establishment as long as the employer has obtained certifications from the Department of Labor. A business could be fined $10,000 for hiring someone under the age of 14. The age requirements for agricultural employment are slightly different.

Hey I think we should be able to get summer jobs. All of those who WANT to work! I hate asking my mom for money and with a summer job I wouldn't have to. But no! You just don't want to let us have any. Well maybe you should

If people want us to set goals early then let us work earlier in life to allow us to save money and learn more about the real world!!! Most adults pitty kids because they move out of the house and barley make it for 2 years alone... Maybe if we would have been able to work and save money we would be living a better life,DUH.

I think that 13 year olds should be able to have a job. My parents want me to pay for most things by myself, but I have no where to get money.
