Question: What are the laws concerning jobs for 13-year olds?

Answer: The Fair Labor Standards Act states that the minimum age for employment is 14 years old. A 14-year old that is a full-time student would be allowed to work in a retail establishment as long as the employer has obtained certifications from the Department of Labor. A business could be fined $10,000 for hiring someone under the age of 14. The age requirements for agricultural employment are slightly different.

i can't belive we can't get an job because of our age. It is not fair, we need money to. people think that because we our 13 we still get money from our parents, like an allowance. not all of us get an allowance.I need money too.

I am 12 going on 13 years old in June. 13 year olds need money and jobs just as bad as every older person needs them. You all here us complaining, but are doing nothing about it. Why is it against the law? You say it's against the law but why? We are very responsible! I just don't get it! Do you know how slow a year goes by before you turn 14? I don't want to grow up to fast, but I want to be able to have a job. Take some action and help the 13 year olds!!! What they need to do is put this on the news. This is very serious!!! Bye!!!
