Question: What are the laws concerning jobs for 13-year olds?

Answer: The Fair Labor Standards Act states that the minimum age for employment is 14 years old. A 14-year old that is a full-time student would be allowed to work in a retail establishment as long as the employer has obtained certifications from the Department of Labor. A business could be fined $10,000 for hiring someone under the age of 14. The age requirements for agricultural employment are slightly different.

It's not fair that 13 year olds can't have jobs WE NEED MONEY TOO if people would give 13 year olds a job then we wouldn't have to go to our parents for money all the time.

hey im 13 and i really hate asking money from my parents. im sure that other 13 yr olds feel the same way. people like us teens need something to do other than sit around and just watch t.v. i mean we could do some kind of after scool activity but we dont get paid for that. so please pass this law so we can get jobs!
