Question: What are the laws concerning jobs for 13-year olds?

Answer: The Fair Labor Standards Act states that the minimum age for employment is 14 years old. A 14-year old that is a full-time student would be allowed to work in a retail establishment as long as the employer has obtained certifications from the Department of Labor. A business could be fined $10,000 for hiring someone under the age of 14. The age requirements for agricultural employment are slightly different.

I think that they should pass a law so that some 13 year olds should get a job. I would really like to work somewhere this summer to earn some cash and it is really disapointing to me that i can not work anywhere because of my age.

I think 13 year olds should be able to have a job so that he/she should be able to buy whatever whenever they want and won't have to worry about their parents saying no.I also think that cause if he/she wants to go to the movies and their parents will not say no because they don't have any money.Children 13 will be alot happier and will not hold a frown on their faces just because they don't have money. It would also save parents money buying shoes, socks, and clothes. It would also make it easier for the parent to buy groceries and paying the phne bill and the electricity bill to keep the lights.

I think that 13 year olds are old enough to get a job. Some 13 year olds are responsible enough to work and make money just like 14-whatever age can.I think the law that states you have to be 14 or older to get a job, should be changed to 13 or older. When you turn 13 you are now called a "teen" so you are more mature and ready for a job.
