Question: What are the laws concerning jobs for 13-year olds?

Answer: The Fair Labor Standards Act states that the minimum age for employment is 14 years old. A 14-year old that is a full-time student would be allowed to work in a retail establishment as long as the employer has obtained certifications from the Department of Labor. A business could be fined $10,000 for hiring someone under the age of 14. The age requirements for agricultural employment are slightly different.

I think that its unfair because what if your parents tell you that you have to work for what you want? How will we work if we can't even get a job because we're underage. We can't babysit? Or tutor? I've been getting staight A's or 5 A's and 1 B. Since I was in the 3rd grade. I think this law is unfair and cruel!

i do not think that it is fare that we can not have jobs just like any one else if they would just give us a chance maybe they would see that we actually can do it. it needs to be equal so give us a chance to you never no you might end up liking your decision.

This law is totally unfair, if they think we're not smart enough for a job, then the government should think again! African Americans, and Women got they're freedom of choice and equal rights, what's so different about 13 year olds? We should have the same chances of everyones else! This law sucks!

Hey, I'm 12 but i'm VERY responceable!! I do everything a 14 year old can do!! And it's not fair that we can't work!! I mean we should have parental consent if we can work with the thing... And if they say yes then we should be able to Work and make MONEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If anyone knows a job in New York City respond
