Question: What are the laws concerning jobs for 13-year olds?

Answer: The Fair Labor Standards Act states that the minimum age for employment is 14 years old. A 14-year old that is a full-time student would be allowed to work in a retail establishment as long as the employer has obtained certifications from the Department of Labor. A business could be fined $10,000 for hiring someone under the age of 14. The age requirements for agricultural employment are slightly different.

I think 13 year olds can have jobs because we are hard workers and so we should be able to have jobs why we are useful and healthy in stead of old and sick

I am 13 and I really want job, not because I wanna prove to somebody something, but because I'm tired of depending on my parents for money. I don't think it's fair that we can't get jobs just because of our age.

I think if a 12 year old needs a job then they should be able to get one that is not right! what if your family is having money problems and they need you to help?
