Question: What are the laws concerning jobs for 13-year olds?

Answer: The Fair Labor Standards Act states that the minimum age for employment is 14 years old. A 14-year old that is a full-time student would be allowed to work in a retail establishment as long as the employer has obtained certifications from the Department of Labor. A business could be fined $10,000 for hiring someone under the age of 14. The age requirements for agricultural employment are slightly different.

Why can't people the age of 13 be aloud jobs? I'm not asking for jobs that promote child labor, all i'm saying is that 13 year olds should be able to get a job like helping filing or organizing a companies things.

I think its discrimination for the government to not allow 13 year olds to work. if we will take the responsability we should be able to work.

there should be more jobs for 13 year olds because the only jobs we can really do is a lemenade stand and sometimes a paper route and we only make a little bit of money why can't we work inside a store or do something that has good pay and I think they shouldn't so much look at our age but our ability to do something
