Question: What are the laws concerning jobs for 13-year olds?

Answer: The Fair Labor Standards Act states that the minimum age for employment is 14 years old. A 14-year old that is a full-time student would be allowed to work in a retail establishment as long as the employer has obtained certifications from the Department of Labor. A business could be fined $10,000 for hiring someone under the age of 14. The age requirements for agricultural employment are slightly different.

I think that people thirteen and up should be able to work not fourteen and up. I need a job so that I can stop asking my parents for money and stuff like that. It isn't a fair rule that you have to be fourteen and up to be able to work!!!!!!!!! I just don't think it is fair at allllllllllll! Just think, what if you were 13 and you wanted to work? huh? well if you think about it, it would be like only men could work like back in the day in egypt and stuff like that! i can't believe it is a law and it should be overruled! lovealways, terrafinch from tucson, arizona.MansfeldMiddleSchoolRocksHard
