Question: What are the laws concerning jobs for 13-year olds?

Answer: The Fair Labor Standards Act states that the minimum age for employment is 14 years old. A 14-year old that is a full-time student would be allowed to work in a retail establishment as long as the employer has obtained certifications from the Department of Labor. A business could be fined $10,000 for hiring someone under the age of 14. The age requirements for agricultural employment are slightly different.

im 13 and i want a job.I really need the money and i want some responsibility. I think that if i am willing to do the job then why wont you let me just because i am a bit to young. you should consider changing the law because nothing that bad could really happen and it would be helping out the people that need jobs done for them to. PLEASE!!

I'm 12 and at the moment need around $200 so why not let 12s and 13s work. wats the difference between a 14 year old and us! We have as much understanding and patience as them! thanks.

All I want is to get a job to pull in some extra money. I don't get an allowance, so i have to get little things done to make a whole $10 a week. Thirteen year olds should be allowed to get jobs too. Maybe not all of us like asking our parents for EVERYTHING!

Why can't I get a job at the age of 13!? I mean something simple as sweeping or cleaning or something! We too need a LITTLE money for extra things and plus it's better for the economy and it keeps us teens off the streets and gives us ideas for when we want to go into the work force. It just helps us not harms us!!!!!!
