Question: What are the laws concerning jobs for 13-year olds?

Answer: The Fair Labor Standards Act states that the minimum age for employment is 14 years old. A 14-year old that is a full-time student would be allowed to work in a retail establishment as long as the employer has obtained certifications from the Department of Labor. A business could be fined $10,000 for hiring someone under the age of 14. The age requirements for agricultural employment are slightly different.

Why can't we get jobs cause we need $ 2 and most of us hate the fact that we have 2 ask our parents for $ and they dont have the $ 2 give us. C i think that if we have good grades we shold get a job

I really do not see why it is illegal at the age of 13 to work, some people are perfectly capable at the age of 13 or even 12.

Many 13 year olds are just as capable and willing as 14 year olds In the work force. Teens who may be tired of babysitting or pet walking should be able to start jobs at age 13. Jobs at an early age give young teens like me a chance to express themselves and show responisibility and hard-work. The makers of the child labor law should rethink their policy for 13 year olds.
