Question: What are the laws concerning jobs for 13-year olds?

Answer: The Fair Labor Standards Act states that the minimum age for employment is 14 years old. A 14-year old that is a full-time student would be allowed to work in a retail establishment as long as the employer has obtained certifications from the Department of Labor. A business could be fined $10,000 for hiring someone under the age of 14. The age requirements for agricultural employment are slightly different.

I need money badly and baby-sitting every other weekend for $2 an hour doesn't cut it. I should be able to have a job that pays better. I can work just as hard as a 14 year old

this is how i see it, im a 16 year old in the job market a hard worker honor role student, eagle scout, all around great kid. well let me tell you all there is no way id be ready for a job at 13 or less id be too fatigued at the end of a long day. If you think you want a job start your own lawn mowing company or have your dad help you with a paper route. the more ive learned the more i realize i dont know and right now i dont know much.
