Question: What are the laws concerning jobs for 13-year olds?

Answer: The Fair Labor Standards Act states that the minimum age for employment is 14 years old. A 14-year old that is a full-time student would be allowed to work in a retail establishment as long as the employer has obtained certifications from the Department of Labor. A business could be fined $10,000 for hiring someone under the age of 14. The age requirements for agricultural employment are slightly different.

I think that all pre-adults should be able to work full time hours on the weekend I would be honored if I could get a decent job but thats just not the case. I need the money and I don't want to have to wait till I'm 14 years old to be eligable to get a job! Thanks.

I think that we should be able to work only if we want too. How are we ever going to learn the responsiblities of the real world if we can't get a job. I just want to like work as a baby sitter or a bag person at Publix that's all. We all need the money.
