Question: What are the laws concerning jobs for 13-year olds?

Answer: The Fair Labor Standards Act states that the minimum age for employment is 14 years old. A 14-year old that is a full-time student would be allowed to work in a retail establishment as long as the employer has obtained certifications from the Department of Labor. A business could be fined $10,000 for hiring someone under the age of 14. The age requirements for agricultural employment are slightly different.

I need a job but I turn 14 in November and papers and babysitting wont pay for a $350 very quickly and the cable for computer every month so I need a good job, but i can't get a half decent one until im 14 so what should I do?

its only 2 yrs difference between me and a 14 year old. my mom says i should have a job-like hospital volunteering- but all i can do is 4h. I'M TIRED OF IT. im smart enough for hospital volunteering(i get str8 A's) and i know CPR and first aid. but i still have to be a high school student. i'm a 7th grader. BIG difference! just 2 more years!
