Question: What are the laws concerning jobs for 13-year olds?

Answer: The Fair Labor Standards Act states that the minimum age for employment is 14 years old. A 14-year old that is a full-time student would be allowed to work in a retail establishment as long as the employer has obtained certifications from the Department of Labor. A business could be fined $10,000 for hiring someone under the age of 14. The age requirements for agricultural employment are slightly different.

I am 14 and I live in Cincinnati,Ohio and I would love to have a job. But it seems the only way I can get a job is through CCY but I am not able to work for them because of my dad's salery. I love to be on my on being responable makes me mature better and I don't always like asking my parents for money. I would rather have money, also I will be going to college in the year of 2007 and I don't want my dad to have to pay for all of my schooling The school I want to attend does cost a bit much. I need a job to help with the present and my future!!! If you can help please do thanks...
