Question: What are the laws concerning jobs for 13-year olds?

Answer: The Fair Labor Standards Act states that the minimum age for employment is 14 years old. A 14-year old that is a full-time student would be allowed to work in a retail establishment as long as the employer has obtained certifications from the Department of Labor. A business could be fined $10,000 for hiring someone under the age of 14. The age requirements for agricultural employment are slightly different.

hi i think it is unfair for 13 year olds because we know what's right and wrong, we know what's dangerous and whats safe. If we can be put in prison for breaking the law because the government says we know what is wrong and what is right surely you can say that we are also old enough to get a job?

I think that 13 year olds should be able to work because we need money to not only the 14 and 15 year old kids. That's is not right because we want to buy clothes and get things without asking them for some money to buy things. If they could only start letting 13 year olds get jobs and then they'll be fair and square. I think that if 14 year olds can get a job so can we. they ain't nothing but, some months or a year older than us. It's not like their smarter than us it's that their older than us. And I hope that they start letting us get jobs so we can start buying our own things. so

I think that they should have us 13 year olds working at the flea market or the grocery store. I'm not no dummy and I believe in myself and in God that I'm going to get a job this summer working somewhere. Because I work to hard in school to not get a job every summer. And I'm going to explain to them that my birthday is October 21.2004. And I need a summer job because if I don't one I'm going to be very upset. I at least deserve a job that I could look back and say "at least I work for what I got. And if they knew how much I need and want a summer job and then they'll understand me.
