Question: What are the laws concerning jobs for 13-year olds?

Answer: The Fair Labor Standards Act states that the minimum age for employment is 14 years old. A 14-year old that is a full-time student would be allowed to work in a retail establishment as long as the employer has obtained certifications from the Department of Labor. A business could be fined $10,000 for hiring someone under the age of 14. The age requirements for agricultural employment are slightly different.

yah i agree with everyone who sez that its not fair that we cant get a job yah i understand that some 13 year olds are immature but the ones WHO WANT A JOB PROBABLY ARNT THAT IMMATURE if they want to make there own money if they were immature they would ask there mom and not want to make there own money...well im 13 and i hate baby sitting and i cant do a paper route or w/e cuz most of the people who have a paper route accually like going outside or they get a ride from their parrents.. UmMmM.. WHAT HAPPENS WHEN PEOPLE DONT WANT TO DO A PAPER ROUTE OR BABYSIT?? EVER THINK OF THAT??
