Question: What are the laws concerning jobs for 13-year olds?

Answer: The Fair Labor Standards Act states that the minimum age for employment is 14 years old. A 14-year old that is a full-time student would be allowed to work in a retail establishment as long as the employer has obtained certifications from the Department of Labor. A business could be fined $10,000 for hiring someone under the age of 14. The age requirements for agricultural employment are slightly different.

I agree with the girl that said 13yr old kids are maturer than an average 14yr old. I am only thirteen and people mistake me for being 18 or over. I don't want to depend on my mother for the rest of my life it should be something out there for us kids to do.

This is not too fair, but I can see why the government is doing this. Sure, they are afraid for a lot of different reasons, maybe we're too immature, we can't handle responsibilities, and things that are sterotypically held against teenagers and kids. But, what about the constituition? Did it say at the very bottom, "Oh, and this doesn't apply to kids under 16 years old" NOT cool. But then the government has to think, that some kids ARE mature.
