Question: What are the laws concerning jobs for 13-year olds?

Answer: The Fair Labor Standards Act states that the minimum age for employment is 14 years old. A 14-year old that is a full-time student would be allowed to work in a retail establishment as long as the employer has obtained certifications from the Department of Labor. A business could be fined $10,000 for hiring someone under the age of 14. The age requirements for agricultural employment are slightly different.

I think 13 year olds should be able to have a job. Because some kids would like to get there insurance and they can't get it unless they have a job or if they got parent's that will pay for it.

Well my name is shanell and i think that at my age i should be able to get at job. One because there are many things that i wont that my mother wont get or cant afford. Also this summer i suspose to go to disney land for a family reunion but since my mom has a low income she is not able to pay for me and my two brothers. And that is two reasons why i need to have a job to help me go on trips that my mother isnt able to pay for.
