Question: What are the laws concerning jobs for 13-year olds?

Answer: The Fair Labor Standards Act states that the minimum age for employment is 14 years old. A 14-year old that is a full-time student would be allowed to work in a retail establishment as long as the employer has obtained certifications from the Department of Labor. A business could be fined $10,000 for hiring someone under the age of 14. The age requirements for agricultural employment are slightly different.

My family are not very rich, if I ask for something I do get it but I feel guilty taking money that my parents need to buy food and other things, I would like to earn money so I can buy my own things and wont have to ask my mum all the time.

I think that teens between the ages of 13-15 should be able to get jobs. We need the money because our parents really cant give us all we want. So i think that they should make alaw saying that teens 13-15 should be able to get a job!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think 13 years of age is a great opportunity to express yourself through a job.I think that 13 year olds want a job and shouldn't be denied because it would help us learn that in your life you have to work to get what you want so the laws that we are too young is really not appropriate
