Question: What are the laws concerning jobs for 13-year olds?

Answer: The Fair Labor Standards Act states that the minimum age for employment is 14 years old. A 14-year old that is a full-time student would be allowed to work in a retail establishment as long as the employer has obtained certifications from the Department of Labor. A business could be fined $10,000 for hiring someone under the age of 14. The age requirements for agricultural employment are slightly different.

i also agree, im 13 and i dont get paid for anything not even my chores or all A's! if people, especially my parents cant trust us to care for ourselves then why do they tell us to pay for the things we need? teens should be able to get a job! learn the "hardships" of life and a lot more!

i think we should be able to work at the age of 13 because some kids want to be able to buy things that their parents wont buy for them

I think that 13 year olds should be able to get jobs, because we need money and responsibility just like any other teen does.
