Question: What are the laws concerning jobs for 13-year olds?

Answer: The Fair Labor Standards Act states that the minimum age for employment is 14 years old. A 14-year old that is a full-time student would be allowed to work in a retail establishment as long as the employer has obtained certifications from the Department of Labor. A business could be fined $10,000 for hiring someone under the age of 14. The age requirements for agricultural employment are slightly different.

To Whom this may concen, I am also a thirteen year old who believes that we should have the right to have jobs. Unlike the other thirteen years olds i have read comments by i do not need money to help support my family. I want and desperatly need a job so i can save money for the future and prove my resonsiablity. I believe instead of wrinting silly comments to Lawforkids.org we should get off our butts and do something about it. Nothings going to change if we just sit back and let everyone else make our own decisions.

I am sure there are loads of mature and expierienced 13 year olds out there looking for jobs, but dont meet the age requirement. 13 year olds without a doubt need to work and be able to get a job. At least as a cashier or something small for now.
