Question: What are the laws concerning jobs for 13-year olds?

Answer: The Fair Labor Standards Act states that the minimum age for employment is 14 years old. A 14-year old that is a full-time student would be allowed to work in a retail establishment as long as the employer has obtained certifications from the Department of Labor. A business could be fined $10,000 for hiring someone under the age of 14. The age requirements for agricultural employment are slightly different.

i think we shouldnt be able to get a job. half of the people on here are full of it. We 13 to 14 year olds are not mature enough to handle a job. A job takes alot of work. And if 13 and 14 year olds get a job more then 75% would end up gettin fired our end up quiting. The only people who should get a job are kurt a dezzy.

I think 13 year olds should be allowed to have jobs. We are considered teens aren't we? Most teenagers are mature. We should be able to have a job just like a 14 year old. What difference will one year make? No difference. Now when a 14 year old wants a job, you have to interview them right? Well you could do the same for 13 year olds. It is not fair that when we are actually willing to work, then you should allow it. And you know when we get to highschool, we are stuck with finals, midterms and other S.A.T's. So actually it's better if a 13 year old gets a job than a 14. Thank you for taking

actually its not funny. unlike some people most of us taht come to this website want jobs. they are willing to get jobs. for instance me. i would like a job. it can be anything. see the job your talkin about, is stuff like filing, accounting, banking but we are talking about things like busboy, or maybe a cashier or sweeping up floors or anything that pays. so plz dont try and bring us down when we are willing to learn.
