Question: What are the laws concerning jobs for 13-year olds?

Answer: The Fair Labor Standards Act states that the minimum age for employment is 14 years old. A 14-year old that is a full-time student would be allowed to work in a retail establishment as long as the employer has obtained certifications from the Department of Labor. A business could be fined $10,000 for hiring someone under the age of 14. The age requirements for agricultural employment are slightly different.

I strongly agree.I'm always told you don't have to work wait till your older. It ain't the point of having to work but that I want to you know.I feel I am very mature for my age and if I desire the opportunity to work then I should be givin the chance. I am currently in the search of a job. I was hoping by the time summer arrives I'd have a steady job but by they way things are goin now I seriously don't think I'd even be able to get a job then. All i want is to be given an oppertunity. For one manager with a kind heart to put themselves in my shoes for a second and give me a chance.

I think that preteens should be able to have jobs so that they will know how life works when they get older. also i think we 13 year olds should beable to work so that we csn have our own money to spend on our spare time.An if we do beable to work at the age 13 soon than the world would really change

I agree. It isn't fair that i am 13 and i have been looking for a job for a LONG time and im going into high school next year, and i still dont have a job. It doesnt matter what our age is, we should get jobs like everybody else. I dont mean like big jobs like building things. I mean like maybe babysitting or things in that nature. We should make our own money to feel like we actually earned it. And also there are kids my age who might not have a whole lot of money and they are looking for jobs to support their family. I think we should just have jobs. I want a job to have fun and maybe make a

I am a very mature 15 year old. I think they should let teens work. I have been trying to get money so I can help my dad. He has a lot of problems but he still works. I would love to have a job so I can help him.
