Question: What are the laws concerning jobs for 13-year olds?

Answer: The Fair Labor Standards Act states that the minimum age for employment is 14 years old. A 14-year old that is a full-time student would be allowed to work in a retail establishment as long as the employer has obtained certifications from the Department of Labor. A business could be fined $10,000 for hiring someone under the age of 14. The age requirements for agricultural employment are slightly different.

i think that 13 year olds should be able to get a job but if not that at least an apprenticship until they are old enough to get a full time job.

I think people should change the law, because maybe some 14 yr. and younger might be immature, but not all of them are! I think that the job interview should be based on if teens that are 13 yr. of age should work. There are so many kids that ask their mom for money, but their mom never has enough, because she has to pay bills. I don't like having to ask people for money, I think that 13 yr. olds shoould have jobs too!

It's unfair that only until 14 you can gat a job. You should at least be 13 because that's the beggining of the teenage years.
