Question: What are the laws concerning jobs for 13-year olds?

Answer: The Fair Labor Standards Act states that the minimum age for employment is 14 years old. A 14-year old that is a full-time student would be allowed to work in a retail establishment as long as the employer has obtained certifications from the Department of Labor. A business could be fined $10,000 for hiring someone under the age of 14. The age requirements for agricultural employment are slightly different.

Just like they said a job for a 13 year or a 14 year old should be. I want to handle my own money, not my parents given me only 20$ or less.

I think that 13 is too young to hire for jobs. However if you are in High school you should be able to get a job because that is when you start driving. Most teenagers have to buy their own car, not to mention insurance. So I think 14 is a good age limit for hiring.

YEAH! I think the law is just not thinking about the 13 year olds out there that are poor, and need money, something like that. What I move out of the house? Should'nt I get a job? i need money to buy an apartment. Well, I'm saying this as an example, if it really happened to me. So, if I need an apartment, I need MONEY, which means I need a JOb! Which means the government really needs to see this page, and go, WOW. These kids need money. Hey, maybe some 13 year olds out there want to work for the college money!
