Question: What are the laws concerning jobs for 13-year olds?

Answer: The Fair Labor Standards Act states that the minimum age for employment is 14 years old. A 14-year old that is a full-time student would be allowed to work in a retail establishment as long as the employer has obtained certifications from the Department of Labor. A business could be fined $10,000 for hiring someone under the age of 14. The age requirements for agricultural employment are slightly different.

Come on! I need money to help pay for me and my mom's rent at the apartments. I think that we 12 and 13 year olds can handle a job. If parents can trust us with our own room, cell phone, and computer, what's so bad about a job? We can do what adults do. From filing important documents to passing out ice cream bars to kids. Even I think that adolescents should be ice cream boys and girls.

Thirteen yearolds should be allowed to have jobs because we need money too. Our parents aren't buying us anything we want, think about it. Thanks! P.S: Hope we can work soon!

i think that thirteen year olds should have jobs. my family is in a bit of a financial crisis and I feel I should be pulling my own weight and earning some money for my family. I belive that not letting children have jobs just becouse of their age is age discrimitation. instead there should be a test or something to see if the person is compitent enough to handle the responsibility.

I think that starting at 13 we should be able to work. I know when I was 13 I wanted money to spend but never had any. When I would ask my parents they would go all 20-questions on me. I just wanted to buy something of my own, that's all.
