Question: What are the laws concerning jobs for 13-year olds?

Answer: The Fair Labor Standards Act states that the minimum age for employment is 14 years old. A 14-year old that is a full-time student would be allowed to work in a retail establishment as long as the employer has obtained certifications from the Department of Labor. A business could be fined $10,000 for hiring someone under the age of 14. The age requirements for agricultural employment are slightly different.

Come on i really want a job. I can't just keep getin' money from my parents cause they've stopped givin' it to me. I think 13 year olds should be able to get jobs! we need money too!

I think its a rediculous law because they really think that a 14 year old will be more mature then a 13 year old??? I know u could say that about all ages but when u turn a teenager u get a new kinda of feeling and a lot of young adults get more mature. So i think the law should be changed to, 13 year olds can get a job, but only on the weekends and it would be a good thought for the managers to select MATURE 13 year olds.

I think we should be able to work at age of 13 because when I want to go somewhere I need money and my mom doesn't like giving me money and like I want to go to the mall but she only gives me like $20 you can get like one pair of pants and that all. I think they should change that law we should be able to work at age 13 at least on the weekends.
