Question: What are the laws concerning jobs for 13-year olds?

Answer: The Fair Labor Standards Act states that the minimum age for employment is 14 years old. A 14-year old that is a full-time student would be allowed to work in a retail establishment as long as the employer has obtained certifications from the Department of Labor. A business could be fined $10,000 for hiring someone under the age of 14. The age requirements for agricultural employment are slightly different.

i tottaly agree with all of you, my name is nick and im 13 and i think that they need to let jobs be avelable to us because we are already teenagers and they really need to do something about this.. is it really that important that our age is lower than most workers? .. i dont feel like waiting 3 more years of doing nothing until i get a job ..

I'm a 12 year old about to turn 13 and I want to be able to work. Because what about when your parents say " IF YOU WANT SOMETHING GET A JOB " then what are we supposed to do. I think it's not fair at ALL !
