Question: What are the laws concerning jobs for 13-year olds?

Answer: The Fair Labor Standards Act states that the minimum age for employment is 14 years old. A 14-year old that is a full-time student would be allowed to work in a retail establishment as long as the employer has obtained certifications from the Department of Labor. A business could be fined $10,000 for hiring someone under the age of 14. The age requirements for agricultural employment are slightly different.

I think there should be jobs for 13 year olds because you are relly in desperate need for independance and want to earn your own money cause your parents won't give it to you.

I think the age to get a job should be 13, and you would have to be a good student, and responsible, and what not.. Because we're always asking our parents for stuff and they say "Get a job!!!" and I always answer back with "If I could, I WOULD!!!" So, I think 13 year olds should be able to have jobs if they maintained a good grade, reputation, etc..
