Question: What are the laws concerning jobs for 13-year olds?

Answer: The Fair Labor Standards Act states that the minimum age for employment is 14 years old. A 14-year old that is a full-time student would be allowed to work in a retail establishment as long as the employer has obtained certifications from the Department of Labor. A business could be fined $10,000 for hiring someone under the age of 14. The age requirements for agricultural employment are slightly different.

I totaly agree with al of you. I think that it is totaly unfair that MATURE 13 year olds can't get a job, besides a stupid paper route, or walking dogs! We deserve to be given a chance! We Want A Job!

I think 13 yr olds should bee allowed to work if they want to. I really want a job so I can make money to help my family. And some families might not beable to make money like if the mom is sick or cant work and if they dont got a dad or welfare of something and if the oldest child is 13 and they want to work they should be allowed to work. I could type forever about this but I am cutting myself off.

I think that thirteen year olds should be allowed to work if they feel responsible enough and ifthey are anxious to work. If they are ready to take responsiblilty and work, I think that nobody should stop them from doing it.
