Question: What are the laws concerning jobs for 13-year olds?

Answer: The Fair Labor Standards Act states that the minimum age for employment is 14 years old. A 14-year old that is a full-time student would be allowed to work in a retail establishment as long as the employer has obtained certifications from the Department of Labor. A business could be fined $10,000 for hiring someone under the age of 14. The age requirements for agricultural employment are slightly different.

I REALLY NEED A JOB BECAUSE I ACCIDENTALLY LOST THREE SCHOOL BOOKS AND IF I DON'T PAY FOR THEM I WON'T BE ABLE TO GRADUATE ON STAGE. I JUST DON'T WANT TO ASK MY MOM BECAUSE I'VE BEEN ASKING HER FOR SO MUCH LATELY. AND IF I DO ASK HER SHE MIGHT THINK I'M INCONSIDERATE.

i am 13 and want a job. it is unfair that i don't have 1. they should let us have jobs. i hate asking my parents for money, also my summer is so boring and a job would help.

I cant find a job anywhere. 14 year olds should be able to earn a little money too. I dont like always having to ask my mom or dad and i want to save up to buy clothes and other things. We are responsible and can handle having a job.
