Question: What are the laws concerning jobs for 13-year olds?

Answer: The Fair Labor Standards Act states that the minimum age for employment is 14 years old. A 14-year old that is a full-time student would be allowed to work in a retail establishment as long as the employer has obtained certifications from the Department of Labor. A business could be fined $10,000 for hiring someone under the age of 14. The age requirements for agricultural employment are slightly different.

I am 13 years old, and i had a job when i was 10 or 11 and the woman wasn't very organized and i never got my last pay check. i was always too afraid to ask her for it and so i never got it. Anyway, now that i'm 13, i would be able to ask her for it. I agree that 12 and below is too young to have a job, but 13 is old enough! I also need extra cash and this would be a great way to get it.

i dont get why we can only do jobs like washing cars and mowing lawns. i want some hard dough. the only real job you can get is if your mom or dad own a company and give you one. i want some respect. they should have special jobs for teenagers.

I make 4.0's so i should be able to do it plus i think its a sighn of responsibility and it should help us mature more. I think this law should be changed!!!
