Question: What are the laws concerning jobs for 13-year olds?

Answer: The Fair Labor Standards Act states that the minimum age for employment is 14 years old. A 14-year old that is a full-time student would be allowed to work in a retail establishment as long as the employer has obtained certifications from the Department of Labor. A business could be fined $10,000 for hiring someone under the age of 14. The age requirements for agricultural employment are slightly different.

When i was 12 yrs old i thought i would be able to do more things with my life if i turned 13 but now that i'm thirteen i live a boring but fun life some people get tired of asking their parents and older siblings for money. so i thing we should all get together and sign some patitions so we can also have the right to get a job.

I totally agree with aubrey. she brought up the point that the only thing we get when we turn 13 is a later bed tym. i play soccer, softball and im the head cheerleader. do u kno how responsible u have to be to do all that stuff. lyk be on tym to practice/games, being head cheerleader i have to come up with new cheers, being able to call ur coach when u cant come. that is a ton of responsibility. so y do they still treat us lyk kids?? i also agree with aubrey about getting a petition started. maybe if we did that they would pay a lil more attention to us!!! and not to the 14 yr olds.

This is ssssooooo stupid. I am smart, I hold a 4.0 gpa and play four sports plus have much extra time. I babysit but so does my older sister so guess who everyone asks to babysit for them? Her! When you turn 13, you become a teen. Why wait untill 14 to get a job? I mean come on. What is the fun of turning 13, if you dont get anything more then 12 but maybe a later bed time right??!! I think we should do something! Maybe if we all signed an e-mail patition and sent it to one of our state senators, they would have to take it to the senete and propose a bill. Then they could change the law, and t
