Question: What are the laws concerning jobs for 13-year olds?

Answer: The Fair Labor Standards Act states that the minimum age for employment is 14 years old. A 14-year old that is a full-time student would be allowed to work in a retail establishment as long as the employer has obtained certifications from the Department of Labor. A business could be fined $10,000 for hiring someone under the age of 14. The age requirements for agricultural employment are slightly different.

I am soooooooo bored at home. My sister tries to find a job for me. It's not fair because she doesn't want to work and I want to work. People should hire 13 year olds because I am seeing that we 13 year olds are stronger and more energetic to work!

I am 13 and I want a job however state law says I can't have because of my age. Personally I think thats cruel and unfair.

I cant stand sitting at home having nothing to do all day. I need to work so i can pay for my own needs. I dont understand it,if 14 year olds are able to work how come 13 year olds cant if were only an age younger? If i want to work then whats the problem? There is no child labor in that situation.

I don't think its fare that 15&16 year olds get a job and 13 year olds don't.13 year olds can work just as hard as they can.
