Question: What are the laws concerning jobs for 13-year olds?

Answer: The Fair Labor Standards Act states that the minimum age for employment is 14 years old. A 14-year old that is a full-time student would be allowed to work in a retail establishment as long as the employer has obtained certifications from the Department of Labor. A business could be fined $10,000 for hiring someone under the age of 14. The age requirements for agricultural employment are slightly different.

Hi my name is Jezzica And I think the same probably as other teenagers we should be able to work as soon as possible because ya know I need money and it would save are parent's money for collage also!!! If I had a job my parents would take 50% of my money I made and would put it in the bank I really do think this law is bad!! 1 We really do need the money for are own needs and so that are parents don't to give us money$$$!!! What do they think were stupid and cant work this early are life well ya know were not stupid and we should work this early!!! It would also get us ready for the real worl

I think that if 14-year-olds can get jobs, then so can 13-year-olds. For example, there are some 13-year-olds who just need money. I myself am in a band and would like to earn enough money to buy an electric guitar, some amps and some mics. However, I have been turned down by many potential employers because of my age. I think that the law should be that 13 year-olds cannot have a job unless they make the decision themselves to have one. Child Labor Laws should not come into play here because we can make the choice whether to work or not.

I think 13 year olds should beable to work so we can buy our own things that we need so we don't have to depend on our parents all the time
